a semi-detached house built in the 1920s modernist style has been significantly extended and refurbished, transforming it into a contemporary family home. the design incorporates green solutions and renewable energy systems, with the aim of creating a modern self-sufficient building. a joint planning application with the neighbouring property allowed the shape of the roof to change from a hipped to gable construction, at the same time as the house next door. a new dormer in art deco style has been added at roof level. the new staircase nestles comfortably between the two bedrooms at first floor level and leads into the new master bedroom suite on the top floor. downstairs, an open space kitchen and dining room with sunken rear living area are flooded with light from the retractable roof light, vertical and horizontal glass slots and full height sliding glass doors leading to a generous terrace. a small garden house beneath mature cypress trees provides storage space as well as an extra guest room with en suite. timber cladding and white render are complemented by a natural stone wall, whilst a sunken jacuzzi creates spa-like tranquillity at the bottom of the garden.
