during the grand designs show in london, we have been approached by clients who just bought a property with planning consent for a 3-storey side extension containing a swimming pool facility to a detached georgian-style family house. the originally much smaller building has been extended with a 3-storey wing structure years ago and has now been granted planning consent showing a mirrored image of the wing building. we are currently redesigning the whole project to allow more light into the building, extending the ground floor into the garden to allow for a spacious living – dining and kitchen area, with generous spa and changing facilities close to the pool area, bedrooms for guests and family upstairs as well as an entertainment room at top level to benefit from views over the adjacent golf course. the project is currently at design stage.
this client owns an art-deco building in chiswick and approached us to reconfigure the current internal spaces with the idea to gain similar sized bedrooms upstairs as well as a spacious kitchen, dining and living area facing the beautiful garden. having worked on buildings of the same period, we are aiming to give the rear façade a similar striking elevation as currently on the front.

cedar house, cobham
this amazing grade II star listed building has been operating as a pub & dining hall with guest rooms on the upper floors until recently the new owner asked us to work on a scheme which retains it’s recent functions of having food & drinks to the public, whilst enhancing the original structure of the building but stripping it from unpleasant later additions which deflected from the beauty of this old building and it’s historical narrative. currently its schemes have been produced and will be present to the English heritage for approval.

wolsey road, east molsey
this building in the heart of east molesey has been extended before, but not necessarily improves in it’s logic and natural flow whilst rooms & functional areas have been added and connected. after inheriting the project from other architects we gave the house a fresh design by moving the entrance and staircase to the middle & reorganising all rooms on all floors whilst raising some heights to finish with a new contemporary look to a traditional elegant building facing the garden giving the project the classic 3S look. building works started on site.
river cottage, hampton court
this celebrities home could play the backdrop of a family tale – small detached 2-storey build facing the river, however, most views blocked by walls & small windows, upstairs a gable housing the master, with some space above the old garage for further bedrooms. by adding a 2-storey extension to the side of the building and adding full glass & sliding doors to the back whilst introducing a more open feel to the living and dining we are improving the flow & appearance of the building and mordernising it’s interiors. work about to commence on site.
a steep site can be tricky for designing a family home, particularly when a client had the vision of building half the house under ground on a greek island. we suggested separate ‘viewing cubes’ to the site, all connected by a buried quarter underneath, with sleeping accommodation to the back and all living, entertaining and dining to the front with 180° panorama views. a cascading waterfall runs from a bathroom separating the bedrooms along the terrace over a shoot into a swimming pool at lower level, to be pumped up again to the bathroom feature wall. the underground garage has space for 4-6 cars; guest accommodation, bar, cinema and game room overlooking the sun terrace towards the sea. the design is currently in planning at lefkada district council.
building overseas can always prove a challenge. we have been commissioned to design a large new built detached house on a large sloping site overlooking lake victoria in uganda. this is complete with six bedrooms, a swimming pool, security guards accommodation and protected car parking as well as plenty of viewing terraces. we have closed this with a local architect who submitted the planning application which has been approved a few weeks ago. we have now taken an advisory role to review the works of the local team for detailed design and construction. works to clean the site and commence ground works have commenced.

eco hotel, maldives
this exciting island hotel is a prototype in conjunction with memsys desalination technology . we have just completed design for a boutique eco hotel utilising breaking edge technology for photovoltaic systems and desalination to create an operation independent from artificial resources. whilst the main pavilion has a raised two storey structure, parabol shape umbrellas provide an extendable roof structure with free standing guest pavilions around the centre, connected with walkways to the main building. we are continuing on a detailed design stage soon.
east twickenham conservation area, richmond
we designed a semi buried detached annex building to replace existing garages next to a large flatted development in the heart of east twickenham conservation area. whilst we introduce a classical front facade to the main road, the main body of the building separated by a terrace consists of two floors with bedrooms at lower ground and living, dining and kitchen above. a ‘living wall’ elevats towards the four-storey main building with cor-ten steel clad to all other elevations. despite its small arrangement and stunning design . the concept has been issued for planning with richmond council.
la vallee de mont blanc, mauritius
this family holiday home is idyllically located in a valley in the south east part of mauritius . the 500m2 dwelling is part of a larger suburban resort development, with private units on large plots set into the hillside, with amenity facilities and a hotel complex close by.
due to its unique location, the contemporary design arranges itself organically into the site as an ensemble of pavilions housing kitchen, dining, living, entrance hall and parking acting as a buffer zone against the bedroom block at the rear, which has a large outdoor pool in front.
each bedroom has its own bathroom and looks out to its surroundings garden landscape with the top bedrooms enjoying additional terraces and amazing views of the valley.
king street, hammersmith
following our successful development in chiswick high road, we have been appointed for the extension and refurbishment of a three storey mixed-use development at king Street, hammersmith. in phase one, we have retained the retail unit and built a separate stairway for basement access from the ground floor.
planning has been granted for a three storey extension to the rear of the property, housing two flats accessible from a new communal staircase, with two maisonettes accommodated within the upper floors of the main building, and plant room, storage and facilities at the rear ground floor and on the top floor.
kingsmere road, wimbledon
upon purchasing this property, theo and olivia asked us to inject our ideas on converting and extending the existing 1930s detached family home in the leafy areas of wimbledon village.
we suggested a two-storey extension over the whole width of the rear of the house which enabled us to move the staircase further back and opened up a large light flooded light well from the rooftop to the entrance hall. the arrangement of the bedrooms became more generous and left us space to add dressing areas, storage facilities and an en-suite bathroom to the existing wet areas. the extended loft accommodates another bedroom and storage with en-suite facilities look at this now.
at ground floor level, we added a sunken lounge area to the former living area overlooking the rear terrace and large garden. the spacious kitchen now opens up towards the dining space at the rear as part of the new extension which nudges into the half-sunken lounge cube next to it. with a completely renewed roof cover, new guttering, new fenestration and cleaned up brickwork the building presents itself as a new structure harmoniously placed between its neighbouring detached properties.
