warwick square, kensington

when we visited this empty lower ground floor flat on warwick square in central london, it was completely derelict and appeared to have been occupied by squatters. with the limited budget in mind, our new design connected the two main rooms facing the square with a columned opening. this opening not only had to take the structural load of the floors above but also created a natural open flow between the rooms. within the arches of the pavement above, we created a bedroom, en suite and utility area with a sunken garden at the front. having collected many antiques and artefacts during a lengthy period abroad, our client also wanted ensure that there was plenty of open space and set back feature walls to display their extensive collection.
