this former thai embassy building needed a complete redesign to bring the three separate parts of the building – annex, basement and main house – together as an integral family house.
the new owners discussed their ideas with us during the Grand Designs Live show in london and soon after we found ourselves redesigning the property top to bottom. the former servant’s quarters have been converted to study, utility and a large kitchen which now connects to the front dining room. the new kitchen extends back into the garden and appears to hover above the large lightwell in front of the basement area, which itself had been converted and extended from a former coal cellar. the basement now houses the laundry, bathroom and large entertainment room with garden access via wide steps leading up to the raised terrace. the loft has been converted into sleeping accommodation with a timber staircase leading all the way up from the original entrance hall.Previous project Next project
