friar stile road, richmond

This project has involved the full refurbishment and extension of a characterful four-storey semi-detached town house in London.

Our proposals include a complete strip out of the whole house focussing on upper and lower-ground floor levels, a new two-storey rear extension with lower terrace and steps leading to the rear garden as well as a first floor roof terrace accessed from a newly refurbished master suite.

A cantilevered mezzanine replaces the original upper-ground rear floor of the house, creating an open plan living space overlooking a double height dining area with two-storey crittall-style glazing and doors with views and access to the garden. A new sculptural stair leads from the ground floor to the lower level with an open plan kitchen and pantry underneath the mezzanine as well as glazed doors leading to a snug and bathroom located at the front of the property.

The use of polished concrete floors at lower level, engineered board at upper floors, and a combination of modern and reinstated character finishes throughout, including exposed brickwork, cornices, venetian plaster feature walls and steelwork and metal framed partitions, help to express new interventions and historic character to create a light, warm and stylish home.
